Welcome
to the Metalworks Gamelan web site!
Metalworks
is an English built and based gamelan made of brass, aluminium
and wood. It is played by eight musicians, all of whom are
composers. We play a mish-mash of styles from Javanese pop
to Sundanese night club hits; Balinese Gong Kebyar to pieces
by English experimentalists such as Michael Nyman, Howard
Skempton & Michael Parsons. Rather than aiming to be
'authentic', the group has developed its own sound.
The
saron bars on the left lead to information on the topics
they describe. If you are unfamiliar with gamelan music,
I suggest you start with the What's Gamelan? saron
bar. Alternatively, if you would like to listen to some
recordings, jump straight to the Recordings bar.
Information on forthcoming concerts can be found in the
News section.
